GEMS 5081
Pangi Budhranna and his wife Simalu from Gummaguda village in Dumbriguda mandal have been integral members of Araku’s coffee community since 2009. As active participants and proud members of SAMTFMACS (Small and Marginal Tribal Farmers Mutually Aided Cooperative Society), Araku’s independent farmer coffee cooperative, the couple actively addressed challenges within their coffee farm as well as helped others around them.
Since its inception in 2007, the cooperative has grown steadily and is arguably one of the largest fairtrade and organic certified coffee cooperatives in the world, with over 30,200 registered farmers. SAMTFMACS has been crucial in aggregating farmers by giving them shared value and complete autonomy over the produce.
This year's harvest has yielded succulent coffee cherries, revealing complex notes of cinnamon, caramel, perfume, honey and dried mango.
